Book Design
This book design merges Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell and I Rise by Maya Angelou to contrast two ideas of success: one shaped by systems, opportunity, and luck, and the other driven by self-determination and perseverance. This contrast is reflected in the layout, where the Outliers text follows a traditional, structured format that is visually disrupted by fragmented sections of Angelou’s poem, symbolizing the interruption of rigid systems by individual voice. Inspired by jazz music, the design reflects the balance between structure and improvisation—suggesting that while success is built on preparation and circumstance, it is ultimately personal expression, resilience, and determination within those systems that define an individual’s success.
